Prostate Cancer Month

This year 241,740 new cases of prostate cancer will be diagnosed.  28,170 men will die of prostate cancer. 1 man in 6 will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime.  Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in American  men behind only lung cancer with 1 man in 36 dying from prostate cancer.  Since 2004, advocates have been using the month of November — a.k.a. Movember — as an opportunity to raise funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically for prostate and testicular cancers. The thinking behind the movement is that growing hair out above the lip will inspire people to ask questions, and then get talking about men’s health issues that are often treated as taboos. via
